Hi, I'm Andy ... also known as JR!
I was a student union officer at Manchester Met, but my elected term ended in July 2010. I'm now working for another students' union in a role supporting the student officers in their work. I'm a politically non-aligned centrist.
JR? I don't get it!
Don't understand why I'm called JR? Well, firstly I should point out my last name is Hartley and JR basicly comes from the Yellow Pages adverts of about 6 years ago ... someone was trying to find a copy of a book printed many years ago, called "Fly Fishing" by J.R. Hartley. When he used the Yellow Pages he found a copy and he was asked for his name to reserve the book. It was then revealed that he was J.R. Hartley. There was then a series of adverts staring J.R. Hartley, but this is less relevant. The point being the chairman of the cricket club, when I joined in my 1st year of uni, called me JR because of the above and it stuck!
Still don't get it, then take a look at this Wikipedia article, or you can see the video of the advert below;
Now for the boring bit ...
The advert was originally broadcast in 1983 but rebroadcast between 1992 and 1995 (the version above) and again in 2001 and 2002.
You can tell the 1992 version from the 1983 version by virtue of two things; the 1992 version includes the Yellow Pages being picked up that is clearly marked "London North Area 1991/92" (the sequence is absent from the 1983 advert), but also the Yellow Pages banner at the end of the advert omits British Telecom (who no longer owned the Yellow Pages). The 1983 advert can be found in the related videos section on YouTube if your interested ... which you're probably not.
