Today and yesterday, I have been wearing a very unflattering T-shirt, and mostly spending my time in a one metre square space, in a sports hall that was fairly variable in temperature. It's all because it was time for this year's freshers' fair.
This year, for the first time in a long time, there was a little blue stall with a slightly overweight, but yet fairly tall (and quite good looking) man standing behind/in front/to the side of it. That stall was the one for Conservative Future, something that sounds more like a prediction from a soothsayer than a youth wing of a major political party.
The doors were opened at 1000hrs on Wednesday and the crowds streamed in. Unfortunately a "can't see the wood for the trees" situation arose, and that's not so good if your not a general interest group (e.g. a film society) as the people trying to find you simply can't! Thursday was less busy and I had at least two people come up to me and ask "we're you here yesterday?"
The good news is a over 20 people have handed over their details, including some who were members of the party already and two brand new members. We're holding our first meeting next week and I intend to have some fun by holding a question time style debate. Only 5 days to go now!

By the way, you can find out more at the MMU Conservative Future website.

Lib Dems are a Flock of Sheep
I'm sorry Glenn and Jenko, but they are!
I can't understand how over two thirds of delegates at the Lib Dem conference, could suddenly agree to a lurch to the right on tax (however good the idea is) without just blindly following Nick Clegg.
I've got no problem with the policy, but it does smack of a desperate attempt to get more press coverage for the party.
What I am mostly confused about though, is why the speakers' podium has a grey backgound! It does make the whole thing seem a but dull, especially since the party's colour is a brilliantly bright gold.

Going, Going ...
... but not yet gone. Gordon Brown has found himself between a nationalised bank and dodgy fish and chip shop!
For those of you who (for some insane reason) get the up to date political news by reading this blog, a junior whip in the Labour Party, Siobhain McDonagh, has called for a leadership challenge at the forthcoming party conference. To trigger a contest, 70 Labour MPs would be required to back the call. It is believed that about a dozen MPs have done so already.
It is unlikely that 70 MPs will put their names to the motion, but the call itself will be unconfortable for Gordon. Indeed it would probably be easier for Gordon if there was a contest, as long as he went on to win it.
As the conference season starts next week with the Lib Dems, all will become clear shortly.
